About HEART Score
The HEART Score is a risk stratification tool used to assess patients presenting with chest pain for potential acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in the emergency department.
Components:
- History (0-2 points)
- ECG (0-2 points)
- Age (0-2 points)
- Risk factors (0-2 points)
- Troponin (0-2 points)
Interpretation:
- 0-3 points: Low risk (0.9-1.7% risk of adverse cardiac event)
- 4-6 points: Moderate risk (12-16.6% risk of adverse cardiac event)
- 7-10 points: High risk (50-65% risk of adverse cardiac event)
Clinical Significance:
The HEART Score helps clinicians make decisions about further testing, admission, or discharge for patients presenting with chest pain. It can help identify low-risk patients who may be safely discharged and high-risk patients who require urgent intervention.
